The Grange Women’s Division 5

Figtree vs Coniston

Sunday 8th September 8:30 am @ Ian McLennan Park

The Grange Women’s Division 5 grand final sees a matchup between Figtree and Coniston. Figtree had a nearly flawless regular campaign finishing with 52 out of a possible 54 points. The side has also proven to be sturdy in defence conceding just four goals – the best of any side across the five divisions. Their opponents Coniston finished 14 points behind, however; they are the only side to take points off Figtree with a 1-1 draw in the final round of the regular season.

Sunday’s match promises to be an intriguing encounter against the two best sides over the course of the competition.

The Grange Women’s Division 4

Corrimal Rangers vs Wollongong United

Sunday 8th September 10:45 am @ Ian McLennan Park

Corrimal and Wollongong United lock horns in The Grange Women’s Division 4 grand final in what will be the fifth time the sides have met this year. The Rangers took out the League Championship finishing three points above United with Candice Morgan being prolific for the side – finding the net 19 times in just 16 games this season. She will have to be at the top of her game when her side faces Wollongong United who the Rangers failed to beat in the regular season going down 1-0 in Round 5 and being held to a 1-1 stalemate in Round 12 and Round 18.

On the flip side, Corrimal will need to be weary of Wollongong United’s Kasey Fraser who has proved to be a handful.

This game has the potential to go either way and is set to provide some great entertainment on Sunday.

MM Kembla Women’s Youth League

Wollongong United v Shellharbour

Sunday 8th September 1:00pm @ Ian McLennan Park

The two best sides go toe to toe in the Women’s Youth League Grand Final. Wollongong United wrapped up the Premiership by just three points in the wash up. United have had the wood on their opponents this year having won three of their four meetings. The last time these two teams met was only a couple of weeks ago, Wollongong United prevailed 1-0 that time.

Shellharbour are yet to beat Wollongong United this year with their only points coming from a 0-0 draw in Round 10 in June. In fact, Shellharbour have only managed to score once against their opponents in just over 6 hours of football.

Whilst the stats might suggest Wollongong United will win this, Shellharbour are more than capable of springing an upset and winning the one that counts.

I am expecting a close game and would not be suprised if this one went the distance.

The Grange Women’s Division 3

Tarrawanna Blueys vs Oak Flats Wildcats

Sunday 8th September 3:00 pm @ Ian McLennan Park

Tarrawanna and Oak Flats will go head-to-head in The Grange Women’s Division 3 grand final. This game is the only grand final across the five divisions that doesn’t feature a 1st vs 2nd encounter. The Blueys took out the League Championship by just a single point while having the best defensive record out of any side in the division, conceding just 14 goals. Mikayla Hill has proven a significant goal threat for the side, scoring 12 goals – equating to 32% of Tarrawanna’s goal return. Their opponents Oak Flats finished 3rd in the regular season – three points behind the Blueys. The Wildcats are yet to beat Tarrawanna this campaign, with the sides cancelling each other out in Round 8 before the side narrowly went down 1-0 in Round 17.

With previous clashes between the two teams being tight affairs, this game looks likely to go the same way.

The Grange Women’s Division 2

Figtree vs University

Sunday 8th September 5:15 pm @ Ian McLennan Park

Figtree and University will fight out The Grange Women’s Division 2 grand final. Figtree won the League Championship, finishing four points above their opponents on Sunday. The side also only lost one game during the regular season, with just four points dropped overall. However, the Unicorns can’t be counted out, with Geraldine Ponce being a standout for the side, scoring 10 goals in the regular season. Matches between the sides have been tight, with their most recent meeting in the Major Semi-final ending up with Figtree prevailing on penalties. This means that the Unicorns are still yet to pick up a victory against the League Champions this year.

This is another matchup that promises to be close, with the sides being so hard to separate over the course of the season
