CRINGILA v BULLI | IPL ROUND 5 | MATCH REPORT

Bulli edged past Cringila 2-1 to earn their third win of the season on a chilly Friday night at Crehan Park.

The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute as Guy Knight took aim from the right-hand corner of the box seeing his effort parried into the net.

This advantage was doubled 10 minutes into the second period when Mitch Del Turco passed the ball in off the post from the top of the box.

Cringila pulled one back in the 76th minute as Jack Harris headed the ball into his own net.

Bulli set the tone for the game early on creating two opportunities within the opening four minutes.

Two minutes in, Mitch Del Turco picked the ball up inside the right-hand channel of the box and dragged a shot wide of the far post.

Two minutes after this Guy Knight took aim from range centrally seeing his left-footed effort fly just past the post.

Bulli’s Guy Knight on the ball.

Just after the 10-minute mark, the away side threatened again as a smart freekick awarded centrally was played into the path of Aaron Baker on the left-hand side of the box who sent his strike over.

Six minutes later, a Knight shot from outside the box rattled the crossbar – the closest the side had come.

Two minutes later, Knight had his goal as a short corner found the midfielder on the right-hand edge of the box whose bouncing shot was parried into the net by Nikola Ristevski in the Lions’ net.

Kyle Jackson had a good opportunity to double this lead on the half-hour mark as his shot from outside the box was batted away for a corner.

Bulli went into the break with a one-goal advantage while looking to add more in the second half.

They didn’t have to wait long as 10 minutes into the second period Del Turco found the net.

Ben McDonald showed great awareness after receiving the ball on the left-hand side to pick out Del Turco centrally on the edge of the box who passed the ball in off the left-hand post into the net.

Four minutes later, Cringila responded to Bulli’s positive start to the second period by creating a chance of their own.

A Nick High cross from the left-hand side found the head of Valentino Merxhushi at the back post who headed just over the bar.

In the 76th minute, the hosts did pull one back when another cross into the box this time from the right-hand side was inadvertently headed into the back of his own net by Jack Harris.

This set up a tense end to the match, and in the last minute, Cringila nearly restored parity.

A corner in from the right-hand side eventually dropped to Jake Bailey centrally inside the box who skewed his shot wide.

Bulli went on to secure their third win of the campaign.

Next Sunday, Julio Miranda’s side will welcome Bellambi to Balls Paddock.

As for the Lions, they will be hoping for better fortunes having taken on last season’s top five in their opening five matches.

The side will face Corrimal next Sunday at Memorial Park hoping to get their first win of the season against a form-shy Rangers side.
