Thirroul Thunder and Berkeley Sports backed up from Saturday sharing the points at Thomas Gibson Park in a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon.

A goal at either end of the second half from Todd Davidson was sandwiched by a quickfire double midway through the half for Berkeley from Ryosuke Matsuoka and Hayden Till.

The sides had met the previous day with the Thunder prevailing in a 4-1 win at Berkeley Sports Ground.

There was no sign of any lethargy to start the match with both teams looking to score early.

Thirroul’s Corey Haines-Grose sent a header over the bar within 60 seconds, and Davidson missed the target from inside the box seven minutes later.

The Goats responded to this purposeful start from the hosts by holding the ball higher up the pitch for the next few minutes.

In the 10th minute, Matsuoka lined up a long-range effort that fell just over the bar, before five minutes later, when Jon Adams’ snapshot inside the box flew over as well.

Some intricate interplay between Mondo Kagami and Matsuoka on the right resulted in the latter swinging a delivery towards the back post that Nick De Liseo headed wide from.

Haines-Grose had a couple more chances for the Thunder midway through the half latching onto passes over the top; however, Claude D’Alessio was equal to both.

Kagami cut the ball inside from the right for Berkeley 27 minutes in and fired a swerving shot that finished just wide of the left post.

The home side nearly took a lead into halftime when they rattled the crossbar 10 minutes later following a chaotic corner from Bradley Strudwick, but D’Alessio eventually got hold of the ball.

The scores were level at halftime even though both teams had opportunities to score.

The Thunder picked up in the second half where they’d left off in the first and were rewarded with an early goal just six minutes after the restart.

Nathan Mucci’s left-sided corner met the head of Davidson in the middle who glanced an effort into the goal to give Thirroul the lead.

The side looked to build on the first goal of the match creating two opportunities four minutes later.

A Berkeley turnover on the halfway line saw Haines-Grose run through on goal drawing a strong save from D’Alessio.

The forward had a similar chance seconds later, this time rounding the keeper, but he lost his footing at the vital moment with D’Alessio smothering the ball.

Thirroul would be left to rue missed chances with the visitors awarded a penalty in the 66th minute.

Matsuoka patiently stepped up before sliding the ball into the left side of the net.

Buoyed by an equalising goal, the Goats turned the scoreline around two minutes later with defender Hayden Till lashing a shot from the right of the box into the roof of the net.

The quickfire double for the away side left Thirroul with it all to do in what remained of the match hoping to avoid their ninth defeat of the season.

In the 75th minute, Strudwick’s powerful effort from a central freekick what held onto by D’Alessio and five minutes later, substitute Ryan Latini headed wide from a corner.

With just two minutes to go, the Thunder found an equalising goal with Davidson’s deflected first-time strike from the edge of the box wrong-footing D’Alessio and bouncing into the goal.

However, deep into injury time, Berkeley could have snatched a victory.

Aurin Jones worked the ball into the right of the box for Kagami – the winger wriggling wilfully before firing a right-footed shot just over the bar.

In the end, the teams were unable to be separated with a 2-2 draw, the final result.

Thirroul could not make it two wins in two days against the Goats with the side remaining in 10th spot.

There are a couple of away matches for the Thunder now travelling to Picton on Thursday night before Warilla at the weekend.

It’s been a tough second half of the season for Berkeley who have only won one of their last nine games.

The side will play their final match of the season this Saturday against the Kiama Quarriers away.
