Division 1
Sunday 27 August 2023 | Thirroul JFC v Kiama Quarriers | 1.15pm | Ian McLennan Park
Having gone through the season undefeated (3 wins, 3 draws), Thirroul start as firm favourites for this week’s Division One Over 30 Women’s Grand Final against Kiama Quarriers.
Thirroul have been ruthless throughout year amassing 57 goals across their 16 League matches and have conceded a miserly five goals all season. Ironically, the three draws they had come inside the last five games of the season giving the Quarriers some hope.
Thirroul is full of experienced players, and one feels that if Kiama can contain the free scoring Margaret Andreason, they may give themselves a fighting chance. With that said, Kiama’s Hanna Hansson-Blackwell and Alyce Quod will no doubt prove a handful for Thirroul.
Kiama Quarriers finished third on goal difference by the narrowest of margins and they have been no mugs in front of goal having scored 69 goals throughout the regular season.
The last time these two sides met was on 16 July and neither side could find a goal in a scoreless draw, so the Quarriers will take a lot of positives from that match into the Final.
Division 2
Sunday 27 August 2023 | Jamberoo Ravens v Gerringong Breakers | 11.00am | Ian McLennan Park
The two top sides face off in the decider this weekend. League Champions Jamberoo Ravens will fancy their chances against the Breakers however anything can happen in Finals football. The last time these sides met was only a couple of weeks ago and the Ravens were comfortable 5-0 winners with Vanessa McKellar securing a hattrick however, we can expect a lot closer game this time around.
Gerringong Breakers made the Grand Final courtesy of their 4-1 semi final win over Thirroul. Madeline Kidd has been one of the Breakers’ go to players and if they can contain the free scoring Ravens, the Breakers may just do the business.
The Women’s game has been growing over the last few years and it’s great to see Women of all ages playing the beautiful game. The Women’s World Cup may have come and gone but it’s hoped the competition has left a legacy that will give the Women’s game a further boost.
