Womens Over 30 Grand Finals

These games epitomise womens football in the area with a strong family vibe, the capacity to enable playing longevity, increasing participation numbers and both a competitive and social environment. Congratulations go to all players who have been involved in the competition over recent years as pioneers in getting this competition to the strong position it is now in.

The O30 Division Two Grand Final saw Premiers Jamberoo take on second placed Gerringong. The Breakers started the game stronger with Jamberoo surviving several free kicks and corners in the first 25 minutes before playing themselves into the game. The dying seconds of the half saw a great opportunity fall to Gerringong’s Rachel Wilson but her shot was brilliantly blocked by the Jamberoo Keeper, Alice May.

The second half saw chances fall to both sides which neither were able to capitalise on. May in particular was busy keeping her side in the game with a string of important saves. With the prospect of extra time looming, the deadlock was finally broken in the 83rd minute with a goal by Analia Wilson for Gerringong.

The O30 Division One Grand Final pitted Thirroul and Kiama Quarriers. From the outset, this was a very competitive and physical encounter, a great showcase of the O30 competition. The main chance in the first half fell to Kiama in the 38th minute however the shot was brilliantly saved by the Ashleigh Orvad. The second half saw early chances falling to Kiama with the Orvad kept busy pulling off some strong saves. With Kiama starting to dominate the match, Thirroul’s defence was finally breached in the 53rd minute with a goal to Kiama’s Louisa Glyde. An injury break shortly after provided the opportunity for the Thirroul coach to make some changes to try and even the ledger, but it was not to be as the Premiers fell in consecutive grand finals.
