In a cracking day for football at Ocean Park, the final three Grand Finalists were determined with Shellharbour going through for Divisions 1 and 2 and Thirroul in Youth League.
In Youth League, League Champions Thirroul took on University. It was Thirroul’s Ava Byron show scoring two goals (10th & 37th) and directing things from the front. Not to be outdone, UOW’s Maddison Day pulled one back on the brink of half time but try as they might in an action packed second half, UOW were unable to pull back the second goal. Thirroul progressing through to the Grand Final on Sunday with a 2-1 win.
Shellharbour took out Second Grade with a 1-0 victory over University. The game was marred by a serious injury to University’s Lucy Crighton in only the first minute as she looked destined to score. However it was Shellharbour’s Miranda McMullan who was the only one to be able to get the ball in the back of the net with her goal in the 34th minute. University had plenty of opportunities to equalise in the second half but a well drilled Shellharbour kept them out. Meanwhile, some excellent goal keeping by University’s young Keeper Isabella Djokic kept University in the game.
Shellharbour will feature again in the First Grade Grand Final after defeating Albion Park White Eagles 1 -0. Shellharbour’s Tahlia Petrovski opened the scoring in the 38th minute of a fast paced and evenly balanced first half. In an attempt to claw back a goal, APWE went to their bench in the 45th minute bringing on Eliza Cowan. On entering the game, Cowan created several scoring opportunities however she saw red in the 75th minute of the game which dented Park’s hopes. Captain Brittany Ring looked to take charge rallying her troops however time ran out and with a player down, Albion Park were unable to find an equaliser.
Congratulations to the winners and all teams who participated on the day showcasing the quality of football in the FSC Women’s Premier League.
