Fernhill FC made it two wins from their last two starts with a commanding away performance against UOW FC, setting the tone early and never looking back. Despite some chances for both sides, the Foxes were in control throughout and came out as deserved 3-0 winnenrs.

The hosts came flying out of the blocks, immediately putting University under pressure. It took just four minutes for Fernhill to strike, as a well-delivered corner found the head of Jordan Hughes, who guided his effort past the keeper’s right-hand side.

Unable to withstand the early pressure, UOW conceded again just seven minutes later. After a slick passing move from the Foxes, Daniel Djukic picked up possession just outside the box. Spotting the keeper slightly off his line, Djukic did not hesitate, attempting the cheekiest of lobs that sailed over Caleb Biondo and dipped perfectly into the top corner, doubling the Foxes’ lead early on.

University eventually managed to settle and created their first real opportunity to cut the deficit i  half. Oscar Boeschmann broke through the Foxes’ backline, but goalkeeper Haruhiko Takimoto stood tall to deny the one on one chance in the 16th minute.

The match bacame more closed after that, with great chances harder to come by. However, UOW had one final one before the break. On the stroke of half-time, Jarrod McDean threaded a great ball through to Adam Bassuni, but once again Takimoto was equal to the task, protecting Fernhill’s two-goal cushion iuntil the break.

The second half began much like the first, with Fernhill on the front foot and eager to kill off the contest.

Just three minutes after the restart, Kyle Del forced Biondo into a save, and moments later, Foxes put up an excellent display of their attacking talent. After the finest of one touch plays in the center, Brendan Pattman found Djukic who drove past the foxes midfield into the final third. Djukic continued with the ball glued to his feet, charging past the defense with style as he entered the box. His effort deserved a goal, but the finish just hit the inside of the post and out.

Fernhill kept creating chances, but Biondo produced many strong saves to keep the scoreline down. However, he could not do much about the Foxes’ decisive goal in the 80th minute. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, Hughes turned his defender skillfully before releasing his shot into the top corner to secure the win in style.

At 3-0, there was no way back for University, and Fernhill comfortably saw out the remainder of the match.

The Foxes will be delighted with back-to-back 3-0 wins, and will now turn attention to next weekend’s trip to Berkeley Sports Football Club. Meanwhile, UOW FC will look to bounce back at home against Gerringong Breakers FC.
