Corrimal’s resurgence continues to gain momentum after they dispatched Warilla Wanderers 6-0 at Memorial Park on Sunday.

Warilla got off to the worst possible start. After just 90 seconds, a back pass to goalkeeper Jhye Withers bounced over his foot and rolled narrowly wide in what set the tone in the opening stanza.

On four minutes, a teasing cross from the right from Bailey Morphett was flicked in by Jackson Dent, giving the home side early momentum.

Corrimal pressed hard early, and just two minutes later, Withers’ pass through the midfield was picked off by Dent, who drove forward and took the opportunity well, making two in as many minutes for the Rangers.

Mackenzie Szelig went on a solo run tearing through the static Wanderers defence before unleashing shot from just outside the box on 11 minutes that just flew over the bar.

Kyoga Kobayashi showed some dazzling footwork on 16 minutes as he linked well with Dent, who forced Withers into a fine save to his right.

Midway through the half, the Rangers made it three. Dent’s corner was met with a strong header from Brodie O’Neill. The ball went into the bottom right corner with Warilla unable to prevent the ball crossing the goal line.

Corrimal’s dominance continued with O’Neill’s snap shot from 25 yards forcing another strong save from Withers.

Warilla seemed to weather the storm 30 minutes in, however Corrimal were already 3-0 up at this point.

The Wanderers’ first real chance fell to Hinata Yamaguchi on 28 minutes, who stung the fingers of Cosimo Nappi with a shot from just inside the box.

Any realistic chance Warilla had to make a comeback was put to bed just four minutes after the break when Dent grabbed his hat trick following a strong 25 yard strike that worked its way through a crowd of players before nestling into the bottom left corner.

On 55 minutes, Corrimal had a fifth when Dent found space inside the box. His shot was saved by Withers, however, it fell nicely to Ayoub who put away the rebound.

Withers was the busiest player on the park and he was called upon to make yet another save on 67 minutes when Szelig linked with Dent. Withers denied Dent his fourth goal.

On 74 minutes, Withers saved back to back shots off Jake Gander and Dylan Hogan.

He could do nothing as Corrimal rounded out the scoring on 87 minutes with Gander waltzing through some pedestrian defending.

It was a game Warilla would want to forget as they turn their attention to next weeks home (sponsors day) match against Unanderra Hearts. Corrimal Rangers on the other hand have scored ten goals in their last two games and will be looking to take that momentum as they host Thirroul FC.

A little shout out to Loghan Lawler who debuted in his first First Grade centre.
