DISTRICT LEAGUE GRAND FINAL | PREVIEW

With Berkeley featuring in all three grades, there is sure to be some great support for the goats and a predominantly green stadium. There are three awesome matches on the card on Saturday.

First Grade – Fernhill FC v Berkeley Sports  – 3.00 pm @ WIN Stadium – Sat 20 September
It’s one versus two in the main event in what is a mouthwatering matchup. Despite Berkeley having won the league title by a whopping ten points, they have yet to beat Fernhill this year. In fact, they have only scored once in three games against the Foxes.
Fernhill could hardly have started the season any worse, with a string of heavy losses before they turned things around. The Foxes love playing at WIN. They will be hard to beat and will have the added motivation to take out the Grand Final on their 100-year club anniversary.
Berkeley Sports, on the other hand, has been the most consistent team all season, and they will no doubt be looking to put the icing on the cake on a very successful season.
Both teams possess match-winners, and this game could go either way.  It is a fitting finish to the season in the District League.

Youth Grade – Berkeley Sports v Shoalhaven – 12.30 pm @ WIN Stadium – Sat 20 September
The League champions did not have it all their way through the finals series and suffered their only loss this season at the hands of opponents Berkeley in the semi-final.
Both teams will be missing some key players through suspension; however, there is still plenty of quality and depth. Both sides play attacking football, having scored over 90 goals each through the season. This one could well come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes, and we won’t be surprised if this one goes the distance. With a parochial crowd behind them and some momentum, Berkeley might just be the slight favourites in this one.

Second Grade – Thirroul v Berkeley Sports – 10.00 am @ WIN Stadium – Sat 20 September
Thirroul has dominated this grade over the last decade, and they will be looking to add to their silverware and list of accomplishments. Having lost just once all season, the Thunder will start this match as favourites. They rank first in goals scored and conceded.
Berkeley Sports limped into the Grand Final courtesy of a penalty shoot-out win in their Preliminary final last week, having come off two losses prior to that. With that said, the goats have an experienced side that would not look out of place in first grade.
This is likely to be a very competitive game that will feature goals. We think it will come down to key moments, and it should be a great spectacle for those looking to get some action in early ahead of the main event.
