The Women’s Premier League wrapped up on Sunday with effectively no change to the final standings, setting up an intriguing Finals Series.
Shoalhaven FC 1–0 Coniston FC | Ison Park
Shoalhaven limped into fourth place but secured their first win since 26 July, ironically against the same opponent and by the same scoreline.
Melanie Leedham’s penalty just after half-time proved to be the difference, although Shoalhaven probably deserved the three points on the balance of play.
Coniston’s season started brightly, but they struggled to maintain that momentum through the back end of the campaign. They can take plenty of solace from their Second Grade side, which secured the League Championship.
Shoalhaven FC now face Woonona in an elimination semi-final this weekend.
Bulli 0–2 Shellharbour City | Balls Paddock
Bulli can be extremely proud of the way they finished the season. Despite going down to the runaway champions, they put up a brave fight and have given themselves a strong platform to build from heading into next season.
But the big question remains…
Can anybody stop Shellharbour City?
They have produced one of the most dominant seasons on record, finishing 18 points clear of the next-best team.
They conceded just eight goals all season, while their attacking numbers have been equally impressive.
Tully Williams opened the scoring after just ten minutes with a composed finish.
Bulli battled hard and, with Samara Wehmeyer running the show, gave themselves every chance of staying in the contest. However, they were undone on 75 minutes when Kristina Janeska found herself in the right place at the right time to bury her opportunity.
Shellharbour City now face UOW FC for a place in the Grand Final.
UOW FC 5–0 Woonona Sharks | Kooloobong Oval
UOW FC have finished the regular season on a high, going unbeaten across their final four matches. They made light work of the Sharks, cruising to a comprehensive 5–0 victory.
Sophie Boyd opened the scoring after just six minutes before doubling her tally on 18 minutes.
Ariana Flemming made it 3–0 just before half-time as UOW took firm control of the contest.
Sian McGavock added UOW’s fourth on 64 minutes, before Flemming completed her brace just a few minutes later to round out a dominant performance.
UOW now face Shellharbour City for a place in the Grand Final, while Woonona will be hoping to extend their season when they take on Shoalhaven FC in the elimination semi-final.
