
The Junior Football Match Official (Also previously known as the Level 4 Course) is the entry level referee qualification for full-sized matches in Junior Football.
This course explores key refereeing topics providing current interpretations of technical concepts, including challenges, handball, offsided, game management, match control and positioning concepts.
This course is online and self-paced, so you can complete it at any point during the season in your own time.
Pre-requisites
- You must be a minimum of 13 years old to complete this course
- You must have already completed the free online Laws of the Game Modules
- You must register for one of the below practical courses and pay the $150.00 fee (Registration’s open 5th January 2026)
- You must then complete the Junior Football Match Official (Level 4) course online ($33.00) and attend the practical.

📚Practical Referee Level 4 Courses in 2026
All Level 4 courses in 2026 will be made up of two components. 1 x Flags and Whistles practical session (1 – 1.5hrs) + 1x in person class recap (2.5hrs).

Course 1 – Wednesday 28th January 2026 –Venue: Judy Masters Oval, Balgownie 9:00am -12:30pm – REGISTRATIONS CLOSED – COURSE FULL
Course 2 – Tuesday 10th February 2026 – 4:00pm – 7:30pm – REGISTRATIONS CLOSED – COURSE FULL
Course 3 – Monday 2nd & Tuesday 3rd March 2026 – 5:30pm-6:30pm (Monday) & 5:30pm-8:00pm (Tuesday) (You must attend both to be signed off) – REGISTER HERE
WWCC – If you are under 18 please ensure you click – ”Other Exemption” or ”Parent Exemption” option.
You MUST complete all online training materials and enroll/attend in one of the courses above. Enrolment is done via Etrainu
Practical Course Details
- Attire: Wear comfortable clothing; boots are not required. Sessions proceed indoors in wet weather.
- Equipment Provided: All new referees will receive flags, cards, and whistles for the practical course.
- Further Details: Additional information regarding practical session dates and times will be provided soon.
Uniform Details & Size Guide
All new Level 4 referees will receive a Legea referee uniform (shirt, shorts, and socks) at the practical session.
- Shirt/Shorts Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL (Note: Sizes run small; sizing up is recommended)
- Socks Sizes:
- Size 1: Kids’ shoe size 9-1
- Size 2: Men’s shoe size 2-8
- Size 3: Men’s shoe size 7-12
