SHARKS THRASH BULLI

SF 1st Shell vs Woonona (1578)

Woonona Sharks showed their ruthless touch with a 10-0 thrashing of Bulli on Sunday afternoon at Balls Paddock.

The Sharks found themselves three goals to the good as they went into the sheds before piling on further damage in the second half, headlined by Zoe Anderson’s hat-trick off the bench.

Woonona made a bright start to the match, getting off two shots within the first couple of minutes as they pursued the opening goal.

Four minutes in, Heath lined up one up for the Sharks from range, but the ball went over.

Two minutes later, Beth Tomlinson took aim from outside the box as well, however, it sailed over.

Woonona’s pressure paid off in the eighth minute, when Sophie Heath slid a first-time finish from inside the area into the bottom right corner.

The Sharks continued to stream forward and in the 20th minute, Tomlinson saw an effort saved by Bulli goalkeeper Tiffany Stone.

In the 32nd minute, Woonona doubled their advantage. Brittany Ring hit the post following a corner before Jessica Beale bundled home.

Seven minutes later, the side went 3-0 up. Laura Green fired the ball into a vacant net with a simple finish.

The visitors’ sustained pressure had earned them a commanding lead at halftime.

The side carried on this momentum after the break as Green sent a close-range volley over within the first five minutes.

On the hour mark, Woonona threatened again. This time, Tess Stephens got her head on a right-sided cross, but Stone made the save.

The Sharks added their fourth goal 63 minutes in. Substitute Anderson picked up the ball in the right of the box and drove a shot into the far left corner.

Moments later, Woonona scored a fifth. Stone parried Beale’s shot from the left of the box into Anderson’s path who tapped home into an open goal.

The Sharks’ onslaught continued as they made it six in the 67th minute. Tomlinson scored with an ambitious long-range strike that looped over Stone and nestled in the goal.

Three minutes later, there was another goal for the away side – Kelsey Clements with an accurate strike from inside the box towards the bottom left corner.

In the 72nd minute, Woonona added their eighth goal. Stephens produced a neat turn on the left wing and drilled in a cross for Beale, who made no mistake passing the ball home.

Five minutes after that, the woodwork denied Anderson her hat-trick as her header from a corner cannoned back off the bar.

With 10 regular minutes to play, Bulli came close to a consolation goal. Nicky Taylor made her way into the box and took on a left-footed curler that flew narrowly past the left post.

In the 85th minute, eight became nine. Tomlinson’s corner found Jordan Wheatley, who steered a header into the goal.

Five minutes later, the Sharks made it double digits. Anderson secured her hat-trick with a powerful strike into the right of the goal.

Anderson’s goal for the final action in a thrashing at Balls Paddock.

Woonona travel to Coniston this week while Bulli are also on the road against University.
