UOW RUN RAMPANT ON THUNDER IN 4-0 VICTORY

After three goals in quick succession late in the second half UOW sealed the game and the three points away from home.

Fans did not have to wait long before an exciting chance as UOW right wing Jasmine Trajceski burst through the defence into the penalty area. She fired a shot just high and wide of the near post giving Thirroul a wake-up call.

In the 21st minute Lillian Iredale was called into action when Sophie Boyd struck the ball at the bottom right corner. Iredale got a strong hand to the ball and forced it out for a corner.

In the 26th minute Lexi Carter gave UOW the lead after a great passage of play between Boyd and Ariana Fleming. Boyd squared the ball behind the penalty are where Carter took a touch and fired the ball into the bottom left corner.

Iredale denied Carter a double making another near post save jut five minutes into the second half.

UOW captain Rhianna Brown extended the lead in the 71st minute when she nodded the ball into the net after rebounding off the bar.

Just two minutes later things went from bad to worse for the Thunder as a through ball for Trajceski lead her goal bound before she fired the ball into the top right corner giving UOW a 3-0 lead.

In the 76th minute Boyd sealed the match for UOW when she chipped the ball out of Iredale’s reach.

Thirroul were awarded a penalty in the closing moments of the match. Mila Gehrke stepped up to the spot hoping to give Thirroul something to cheer about. Emma Carstens dived to her left and saved the ball keeping her clean sheet as the final whistle blew.

Thirroul travel to South Nowra to face Shoalhaven while UOW are back at Kooloobong against bottom of the ladder Bulli. Both sides will play Sunday the 15th of June at 3pm.
