Dandaloo def Balgownie Rangers 2-0 @ Dandaloo Sportsground

The Lions are roaring back after a strong performance against Balgownie Rangers. Their second straight win catapults them back in contention.

After a strong start to the game, Daniel Chapman put the home side ahead on 35 minutes. A lead they took into halftime.

Both teams created chances in the second half; however, Nicholas High finished a sweeping move on 76 minutes to put the Lions two up. A lead they held as they saw out the game.

The Lions now have a chance to take the top spot as they travel to league leaders Shoalhaven this week. Balgownie Rangers will welcome Oak Flats Falcons in a match that bears significance for both sides.

Unanderra Hearts def Fernhill FC 1-0 @ Unanderra Oval

Fernhill’s perfect start to the season came to a halt at Unanderra Oval on Saturday. The game was played with high spirit and strong intensity as both sides looked to get control.

Despite several close calls and some strong saves, the game was decided with one moment of magic.

On 75 minutes, Daniel Carella picked up the ball on the left before cutting inside and drilling a shot that snuck into the bottom corner. The Foxes were unable to break down a determined Unanderra side who held firm.

Things got a little heated in the latter stages, with both sides having players sent off. Luke Picciolini was sent after he was already substituted and committed an offence that warranted a second yellow card. Mattias Passlack was also sent for a second yellow card in the dying minutes.

Both teams now sit three points behind Shoalhaven FC.

Fernhill will be back home hosting University FC, whilst Unanderra remain home as they welcome Thirroul.

Gerringong Breakers def Thirroul 5-1 @ Thomas Gibson Park

Toby House bagged four goals for Gerringong as they eased past Thirroul last Saturday.

An even and entertaining start to the match saw both sides with good scoring chances.

Just before the break, House blasted home to give Gerringong the lead.

House scored again inside the opening minute after the restart to put the Breakers two up.

Thirroul got themselves back into the game on 57 minutes when they won a penalty. Seamus Macken-Walsh dispatched the spot kick to reduce the deficit.

In the blink of an eye, the Breakers were back in front by two after Darcy Jones finished a sweeping move just seconds later.

And just five minutes later House got his hat trick with another fine finish from just inside the box.

The game was sealed on 70 minutes with House getting his fourth and Gerringong’s fifth as the club recorded its fourth straight win over Thirroul.

The win is Gerringong’s first of the season, and they will face their longest road trip this year as they face Picton at Hume. The loss is Thirroul’s third straight. They will be hoping to turn it around against Unanderra away this week.

Shoalhaven FC def Picton Rangers 2-0 @ Hume Oval

Shoalhaven came up trumps after arguably the longest road trip in Illawarra football. Hume is not an easy place to come; however, Nathan Aldridge has Shoalhaven playing some good football at the moment.

Both sides showing plenty of attacking intent early; however, the breakthrough came on the half hour in rather unfortunate circumstances when Scott Miranda turned the ball into his own goal.

Rocky Lavalle doubled Shoalhaven’s lead just after halftime and just five minutes later, things went from bad to worse for the home side as they lost Scott Miranda to a second yellow card.

It proved too much to overcome as Shoalhaven secured their third straight win to start the season. They are the only team to remain undefeated.

They will face yet another tough challenge this week as they welcome Dandaloo to Nowra. Picton, on the other hand, will be hoping for better luck when they host Gerringong Breakers.

Oak Flats Falcons def University FC 1-0 @ Keith Bond Oval

The students arguably put up their strongest performance of the season at Oak Flats, but it wasn’t enough as a Dane Matthews goal just before halftime proved the difference.

University have had a tough run of games to start their season. It doesn’t get any easier as they face the Foxes this week.

The Falcons bounced back from their last start loss to thrust themselves back into the mix. They face a tricky opponent in Balgownie Rangers this week.
