BERKELEY v OAK FLATS | IDL ROUND 11 | MATCH REPORT

A 10-man Oak Flats ground out a solid 2-0 win away to Berkeley on Saturday afternoon.

After Falcons defender Jamie Stevenson missed from the spot half-an-hour in, Goat Hayden Till sent the ball into his own net just before halftime giving the visitors the lead heading into the break.

Alexander Bausch saw red for Oak Flats at the hour mark, but with 12 minutes to play, winger Daniel Munilla scored for the second game running giving the side the win.

Despite an early shot for Berkeley’s Orcan As, Oak Flats created the bulk of the chances in the first period.

Midway through the first half, Daniel Munilla sent an effort from a tight angle over the bar and in the 30th minute, Jamie Stevenson saw his penalty saved by Dragan Ljubvoic.

The Falcons continued to push in search of the first goal, coming close twice over the next 10 minutes from Lance Condello and Bojan Caric.

The Goats’ defence was finally breached with three minutes to play as a Munilla corner from the right caused havoc inside the box with Hayden Till scoring an own goal.

Against the run of play, the home side nearly restored parity in first-half stoppage time when As was played in one-on-one with Valon Rizvani but the goalkeeper got a hand to the ball.

The visitors went into the break with a one-goal advantage with Berkeley also suffering two first-half injuries.

The trend of the first half continued and 56 minutes in Bojan Caric twisted and turned on the left creating an angle inside the box with his eventual strike being saved.

Four minutes later, the away side were reduced to 10 men when Bausch was given his marching orders.

Berkeley took the ascendancy in the match with a couple of bright moments but were unable to take advantage.

In the 68th minute, captain Jarryd King stepped out of the defensive line sending an effort from significant range over the bar.

With 78 minutes played, the lively Munilla sealed the game for the Falcons as he found himself face-to-face with Ljubvoic placing a composed finish into the bottom right-hand corner.

Despite a couple of close calls towards the end, Oak Flats saw out the remainder of the match earning a 2-0 victory.

The win for the Falcons moves them back into the top five on 19 points.

Oak Flats have a couple of clashes at home next up taking on Shell Cove next week before University in round 13.

This result compounds a troubling run of form for Berkeley who have now lost six matches in a row, however, they still remain five points away from last position.

This was also the fourth time in that run where the side have failed to find the net.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Goats travelling to Thirroul before hosting Shell Cove the week after.
