BAMPTON CUP | QUARTER FINAL REVIEW

Quarter Final BBC vs Coniston (90)

Bert Bampton Cup:

The quarterfinals of the Bert Bampton Cup were played over two weeks with three of the four games taking place before the week of Round 1 of the regular season, and the match between Wollongong United and Coniston being pushed back to the middle of the week after Round 1 had been played.

Bellambi Rosellas 3 (Ryan Hunter 76’, Grant Zanni 81’, Liam Unicomb 87’) Albion Park White Eagles 1 (Jake Leighton (pen) 71’)

Bellambi came from a goal down to defeat Albion Park at Elizabeth Park on Saturday afternoon.

Despite a fast-paced first half, neither side troubled the scoreboard meaning the teams went into the sheds unable to be separated.

It took until the 71st minute for the scoring to be opened when the visitors hit the front.

Five minutes later, the Rosellas restored parity through Ryan Hunter who sent a bullet header into the net following a corner from the right-hand side.

In the 81st minute, Bellambi took the lead through Grant Zanni following another corner kick from the same side.

Liam Unicomb added one more for the hosts in the 87th minute with a powerful strike from the right-hand side across White Eagles shot-stopper Blake Coad who was unable to prevent it finding the net despite getting a touch to the ball.

In the final knockings of the game, Albion Park substitute Cody Waller received his second yellow card of the game meaning the away side played out the remainder of the match with ten men.

Bellambi have now beaten the top two sides from last season’s Premier League in the past two rounds of the competition

 

Woonona Sharks 1 (Robbie Gaudiosi 52’) Cringila Lions 4 (Tobias Norval 25’ 27’ 78’, Peter Simonoski 73’)

Woonona went down 4-1 to Cringila at Ocean Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions fired into a two-goal lead with a quickfire brace from Tobias Norval in the 25th and 27th minute.

Cringila maintained that advantage heading into halftime.

Seven minutes into the second half, the Sharks halved the deficit through Robbie Gaudiosi.

However, the visitors would go on to add two more goals with Peter Simonoski finding the net in the 73rd minute before Norval completed his hat-trick five minutes later.

This was the Lions’ second consecutive victory by a three-goal margin in the competition following their 4-1 victory against the Blueys last Friday night.

 

Helensburgh Thistle 0 Bulli FC 6 (Takumu Tsujimura 5’, Ryan Emerton 29’, Ben McDonald 41’ 54’, Luke van Zyl 61’ 87’)

Bulli defeated Helensburgh 6-0 at Rex Jackson Park on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors took the lead five minutes in when Takumu Tsujimura found the net.

Ryan Emerton doubled this advantage just before the half-hour mark.

Forward Ben McDonald scored a brace with goals either side of the halftime break.

Ex-Thistle skipper Luke van Zyl came off the bench to score two goals against his former side and ensure a place in the semi-finals for Bulli.

Bulli have now scored 11 goals in two games in the competition and are still yet to concede.

 

Wollongong United FC 1 (Takayumi Kayano OG 63’) Coniston FC 0

Wollongong United edged past Coniston in a replay of the Fraternity Club Cup final with a 1-0 victory at Ian McLennan Park on Wednesday night.

The only goal of the game came just after the hour mark when Takayumi Kayano put the ball into his own net giving United their second victory against Coniston post-lockdown.

 

Youth Cup:

The quarterfinals of the Youth Cup were played over two weeks with three of the four games taking place before the week of Round 1 of the regular season, and the match between Wollongong Olympic and Bulli being pushed back to the middle of the week after Round 1 had been played.

 

Tarrawanna Blueys 2 Woonona Sharks 0

The Blueys secured a 2-0 victory at Tarrawanna Oval thanks to first-half goals from Jake Attwell and Nick Tomasiello which sees Tarrawanna head into semi-finals of the competition.

 

Helensburgh Thistle 0 Wollongong United 8

United continued their free-scoring form in the competition putting eight past the Thistle at Rex Jackson Park taking the side’s total goals for this competition to 23 with only two matches played.

 

Albion Park White Eagles 0 Coniston 2

Coniston got up 2-0 against the White Eagles in a tight affair at Elizabeth Park on Saturday afternoon with Coniston skipper Brandon Angelevski tucking away a penalty deep into injury time to secure a place in the semi-finals for his side.

 

Wollongong Olympic 3 Bulli 1

Olympic got their second successive 3-1 victory in the competition defeating Bulli at Ian McLennan Park on Wednesday night.
